Delhi hotel fire : 21 people killed, several foreigners among those dead

NewDelhi: Afire broke out at a hotel in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar on Wednesday morning (June 3), killing at least 21 people and leading to the rescue of more than 40 others. The majority of the deceased are reported to be foreign nationals.Several of those killed are foreigners, mainly from Central Asia and Africa, officials said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed grief over the loss of lives in the fire incident in Malviya Nagar here and announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh each to the next of kin of each of the deceased and ₹50,000 for those injured.

The prime minister said an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund would be given to the next of kin of each deceased and ₹50,000 for those injured.

Delhi CM Rekha Gupta said, "Deeply saddened by the tragic loss of lives in the devastating fire incident in Malviya Nagar..."

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Further details are awaited.
